Beginning January 1, 2025, Washington State dentists administering moderate sedation with enteral or parenteral agents to children will be required to obtain a Pediatric Sedation Endorsement. The application is now available from the Department of Health.

Beginning January 1, 2025, Washington State dentists administering moderate sedation with enteral or parenteral agents to children will be required to obtain a Pediatric Sedation Endorsement.

To obtain this endorsement, dentists must hold a current moderate sedation permit and fulfill new requirements, which include completing 14 hours of additional continuing education in pediatric sedation. The new rules specify that these continuing education courses must include pediatric-specific topics as well as hands-on instruction, simulations, or live supervised pediatric sedation case management, along with current BLS and PALS certifications.

On December 6, the Department of Health released the application form for the Pediatric Sedation Endorsement. Find additional permit application information on the DOH website. Dentists are encouraged to review the full rule requirements in preparation for the application.
