Apply to Serve as a DQAC Member by March 30
The Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC) is accepting applications to fill three dentist seats on the Commission. Apply by March 30.
DQAC is comprised of twelve dentists, two expanded function dental auxiliaries, two public members, and operates under a legislative mandate to protect the health and safety of the public and to promote the welfare of the state by regulating the competency and quality of dental providers under its jurisdiction.
In addition to developing rules, policies, and procedures that promote the delivery of quality dental care, DQAC members also serve on disciplinary hearing panels and standing committees. By serving on the Commission, members have the chance to make a tangible, positive impact on dentistry and the public as a whole.
Time Expectations
DQAC meets around eight times each year, usually on a Friday in the months of January, March, April, June, July, September, October, and December. The average time commitment, including disciplinary hearings, committee meetings, the Commission training retreat, case and compliance review, weekly disciplinary case authorizations, new member orientation, and business meetings, is around twenty hours per month.
Members are expected to attend DQAC business meetings as well as any committee meetings to which the member is appointed. Committee meetings typically take place via conference call and last one to two hours, although in-person committee meetings may be scheduled upon request.
Disciplinary panels may meet via phone or in person several times per year, and panels may need to convene with short notice in order to respond to emergent situations. Finally, disciplinary hearings are scheduled separately from regular meetings because of the number of cases that need to be heard. Disciplinary hearings are typically scheduled for one to three days and while about 30 disciplinary hearings are scheduled annually, due to case settlements or continuances, the Commission actually holds only one to four disciplinary hearings per year.
Application Requirements
In order to apply, members must be citizens of the United States and residents of Washington, and dentist members must be licensed and in active practice for a period of five years before appointment.
