Be an Expert Witness for DQAC

Apr 10, 2019
The Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC) is looking for dentists to serve as contracted expert witnesses.
From DQAC:

You could be an expert witness.

The Dental Quality Assurance Commission routinely seeks expert witnesses who have experience and knowledge in orthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral pathology, pediatrics, restorative, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and general dentistry.

When patients are unhappy with the care they received, the commission evaluates the standard of care dentists provide. When the commission determines a dentist has provided dental care below the appropriate standard of care, it charges the dentist with a violation. Once a violation has been charged, the commission needs an expert witness to provide an independent evaluation of the case to determine if care was or was not within the standard of care. We contract with expert witnesses to provide these independent evaluations.

As a contracted expert witness, you are paid a fee to provide an independent evaluation. You may be asked to testify at a hearing.

This is another way you can be involved with the commission without the large time commitment of becoming a commission member. Contact Jennifer Santiago at jennifer.santiago@doh.wa.gov if you are interested in contracting as an expert witness.
